MY EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING

My name is Addie Flora; I am a cisgender, queer, white woman. I hold a master’s degree in clinical Rehabilitation Counseling from Portland StateUniversity. My course work included physical and psychosocial impacts of disability, vocational rehabilitation, individual and family therapy, diagnosis and treatment planning, human development, and the ethics of counseling. I worked in community mental health for five years with youth ages five to eighteen who have experienced abuse. I provided mental health counseling to clients with varying backgrounds, ages, genders, and abilities through a practicum experience at Portland State University’s Community Counseling Clinic and an internship at William Temple House. I have received additional training in Trauma Informed Care, Collaborative Problem Solving, counseling individuals with Aphasia, and Motivational Interviewing. Before receiving my master’s, I earned a BS in Liberal Studies, concentrating in early childhood education and development. I continue to seek further education and training. I work to create a therapeutic space that is accepting, non-judgmental, kind and understanding. I believe in conducting therapy in a way that is empowering to the client and encourages their autonomy and growth. My approach to therapy involves consideration of our culture, identities,environment and involvement in systems and how it affects our mental and physical wellbeing. I use techniques from person centered and narrativetherapy such as exploring life stories and reshaping them in a way that empowers you in the present and future. I believe you are capable of whatyou want to achieve and I am happy to be a support for you while you get there.
