    MY EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING

I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Portland State University in 2006 with a major in psychology and a minor in criminal justice.  After that, I began working for child welfare for the next 7 years.  From this work, I saw the impact of trauma (acute, complex and multigenerational) on children and families.  I also saw how systems work and can become oppressive to vulnerable and marginalized populations and how there were never enough supportive services to adequately meet the needs of the people and expectations of the systems.  I knew I wanted to do more to help people so I started my MSW degree at Portland State University, graduating in 2013.  After graduating, I worked at Oregon Health and Science University as an emergency department social worker.  Here, I did a lot of crisis work, providing support for families and individuals going through difficult times such as the death of a loved one, supporting survivors of trauma and abuse among other things.  I continued to see an undercurrent of trauma through the lives of people I worked with.  After 6 years, I decided to move to a pediatric primary care clinic where I provided support, resources, and counseling services to children, youth, parents and families.  From an attachment and strengths-based perspective, I enjoy working with people where they are at through depression and anxiety and have a soft spot in my heart for youth exploring their identity, parenting challenges, life transitions and trauma.
